This thread reminded me that there was another about wrestling a while ago: https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/2813/
There are a few posts from me about when my Dad used to take me to watch.
He has passed away since then.
:(

Loopey sorry to hear about your dad. Thanks for the link. Funny stuff. The whole "gay" angle by Charley was GREAT! I went to Madison square Garden with my father. I saw a strap-match between Chief Jay strongbow(he was italian ;)and Greg valentine. very good match. we took my grandma sometimes. she got wild. she called all the heels >SKUNKS! Fun times! Giant Haystacks? Never heard of him. I'll look him up. Cheers!

Giant Haystacks? Never heard of him.

He was named after American wrestler Haystacks Calhoun. I actually saw Calhoun wrestle at the end of his career when I lived in Florida in the early 70s. I saw many of the stars of the era in the small auditorium in my home town: Dusty Rhodes, Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan -- basically everyone who wrestled circa 1973-1980.

Dabutt I love Calhoun. Dusty was really fun. I seen him and Koloff. I assume Harley race was the NWA champ? Florida Wrestling had THE names back then. I miss Awa<Nwa<WWF! the territories had flavor. Now wrestling is BAD!

My mother always tells stories of my grand mothers love of wrestling. Not WWF of course. The stuff on TV on a saturday - she'd be in her bedroom and hear shouting..."he's behind you....oh the dirty bugger."

Big that is funny. My grandmother went with us several times. SHE HATED THE HEELS ,she'd yell"You skunks". Pro wrestling at its best incites like Punk Rock!
