I don't think we've gone back to a broad comedy style, but it's absolutely true that personality-led commissions are now back in vogue.

My late father always said that Terry Scott overacted. To sideline slightly, somebody I knew was in hospital at the same time as him and he treated the nurses etc like dirt. Apparently the chief doctor told him that "when you are on the TV you might be the star but in here I'M THE STAR".
