I liked the film.

Did you like the scene near the end when Tintin drops completely out of character into abject pessimism, so Haddock delivers a motivational sermon about overcoming failure? Like something straight out of Chicken Soup for Le Petit Moffat Vingtieme. That was the scene that made me bin the DVD. Snowy's penchant for alcohol, a key part of the books, was almost completely missing. Visually, no complaints. Acting, not so bad, except Frank Welker should have been hired to voice Snowy (whose voice in the movie was far too deep for a little white terrier). Allan was also miscast. But mainly it's just the story that was shite: climax being a silly duel in cranes (that never happened in the books)! The motivation for their movie adventure is to get rich by finding treasure - which was never a theme of the books. 5/10.

;) My French friend said it must be pronounced 'Tan Tan' !

In Chinese, he is Ding-Ding, and Haddock is Ha-doa-ke. Snowy is properly Mi-Lu.

I'll watch it again and get back to you.

I think its a tricky one because in many ways the worlds moved on.

So this sexless busy body seems out of time and place.

The themes of the books remain timeless. The movie dealt with the non-issue of Tintin's sexuality. First, Tintin tells Haddock very sternly to keep his trousers on (when they first meet). Later, at the Bianca Castafiore concert in Morocco, there is a sexy redheaded woman seated near Tintin and he turns his head to look at her - accidentally or otherwise - while looking for the villain.

Keep your trousers on means stay calm.

What does keep your knickers on mean then?

I resent the implication that Haddock would wear knickers in the first place.
