So is Bruce Forsyth's hair, but that doesn't do anything for me either.

I'm not saying it should do anything for you all I'm saying is there's more to it then meets the eye.

I totally agree with the fact that it the series has an emotional undertone that is why I think that if it was a single camera show this would have come through much more it'd be a genuine classic.
One of my favourite lines is Stan saying 'my Dad was a dessert rat. He learned to play the violin and was married twice. He's had a wonderful life,' it's not that funny but I like it.

I love little quirky lines like that. It gives you a quick glimpse into someone's life but doesn't reveal too much.

I'm just consulting my Victoria Wood script books to find the Exeter reference.

Yeah and I find it interesting that learning to play the violin and being married twice is the definition of a good life.

I think the Exeter reference is in series two.

Found it. It was in Victoria Wood As Seen On TV in a sketch called The Trolley. Duncan Preston is talking about Plymouth being the new Exeter saying that though I think there's another reference to it in dinnerladies series two when Bren is talking about someone having a long drive down to Exeter but I'm not quite sure about that.

I think there is also a reference to someone who is from Exeter.

Isn't it something to do with someone having a uncomfortable journey? I need to know now.

It's getting like the Da Vinci Code around here.

I'm sure Bren says it to Jane. I definitely remember Victoria saying it to a minor character.

I apologise to all Dinnerladies lovers but I thought this sitcom was just one step away from being dire...I did! Dame Wood, as her legion of Rabid fans would have you believe, can do no wrong, but I think she committed a minor crime against sitcomedy when she made the super self indulgent Dinnerladies. It was no more than a stew made up of her old and out of date Victoria Wood Show staples. Another case I'm afraid of the BBC elite names brigade being handed another golden opportunity, whether the material is really any good or not. I did not see every show I admit, so it is just possible I missed those classics that people here talk about, although from the three or four I did see, I find that very hard to imagine. Sorry once again.

That's fair enough, it's not going to be for everyone's tastes but I feel that it's a show you warm to and a show that gets better with every watch. It's very soap like especially series two so I would recommend you watch them from the start and all the way through and then tell us what you think.

You mean there might be something in the 13 episodes you missed? As opposed to the 3 you saw! Madness.

Probably isn't for you though, if you didn't like it after a few watches. I do think it grew on me though.

Yes, I would consider myslef a fan but I wasn't that keen till I watched a few episodes and noticed some of the genius lines.

The show is peppered with cracking lines and wonderful turn phrase something Victoria Wood has always been great at.

Sub-Alan Bennett.

I don't find it to have any discernible emotional impact.

the wide variety of her colleges

I think you mean 'colleagues'!

I really want to watch dinnerladies now though. Damn you all.

Oh, and I think someone mentioned something about dinnerladies being poorly received after the realism of The Office. The latter didn't start until almost 2 years after the former had ended.

Not least Wood herself as part of her explanation as to why the show wasn't a big hit.
