Not really. I think it's reasonably established that Don is a storyboard artist rather than a writer, but perhaps I'm wrong. Either way, any rules that put him off attending are bad as far as I'm concerned. A BCG meet should embrace new and old, old and young, storyboard artists and non-storyboard artists.
