British Comedy Guide

RIP David Croft Page 2

Can't really add much to what's already been said. Will be remembered as being part of one of the most successful comedy writing partnerships in British TV history and Dad's Army will be watched forever...

Have to admire Amazon's opportunism in immediately sending out emails advertising the Dad's Army boxset.

Perhaps we'll get some repeats of the less shown stuff on the mainstream channnels.
To be honest, the Beeb have been flogging DA to death recently.

His stuff pretty well defined a genre.

5 of Mr David croft's works are all time classics

Dad's Army
Are You being Served?
It Ain't Half Hot Mum
Hi-De-Hi!
'Allo 'Allo!

All time greats!

Mr Croft's contribution to British comedy writing is pretty hard to beat, the man is a legend.

"Was" did I hear you say?

No I meant is!

But David Croft is still a legend!

Definitely a great loss to British comedy writing.

And his family and friends of course.

RIP.

I agree. The others had their moments but I think Dad's Army and 'Allo 'Allo! are unbeatable classics.

No. Still just Dad's Army. That is a classic. 'Allo 'Allo! early days was great but the occupation went on too long (for me). Time, as ever, will tell which is a classic - but Dad's Army, I think, has already done that more than any British sitcom ever.

I think DA is the only true classic in there too. However, most of his others are shoe ins for any top 50 list. But after DA their, er, theatrical bent, if you will, really kicked in. I think they are partly resonsible for TV becoming so camp with their post DA sitcoms, and well, TV still hasn't really recovered from that, in fact it's possibly at its campest now. They have a lot to answer for, for that legacy. But you kind of forgive them for the longstanding brilliance of Dad's Army.
