A history lesson 2

A CLOWN SITS CHATTING TO A KID IN A ROOM

CLOWN
Hey kid it's good you came to see me. No one else did, I appreciate it.
Now you're going to carry on my good work aintcha?

KID
You betcha Boffo.

PULL BACK TO REVEAL THE KID AND BOFFO ARE IN A PRISON CELL, A CHAPLIN AND 4 GUARDS WOULD APPEAR TO BE GETTING READY TO TAKE BOFFO TO HIS DEATH.

CLOWN
And remember kid don't forget type 2 diabetes and heart disease kill way more people than a foolish old clown and a claw hammer.

KID STANDS UP REVEALING HE'S WEARING CLOWN MAKEUP AS WELL.

KID
I'll never forget you Boffo. Or my name ain't Ronald McDonald!

GUARD
Make your way, comes this way to the rope where you'll be chokin'

PRIEST
A visit to your maker comes today.

KID
Catchee!

I think I get it, Ronald is going to continue the work of a killer clown called Boffo? But it is very oblique, which is fine, but I do think it needs a tad more explanation. Am I missing something in the last line? Or is the kid is just exclaiming joy?

make your way make your day to the sign that says your welcome
a visit to mcdonalds makes your day

I get it more now I've looked it up, but if I had seen it without your prompt it would have gone straight over my head. Could just be me and my head though.

You poor fellow unable to spot a gag based on a poorly matched pun on a 20 year old jingle for a burger chain

I know. I'm hopeless.

Well at least you're pretty.

Thanks. Appreciate it.
