I put this in the Community thread, but most probably won't look in there. So here is a link to a pretty interesting article on Community writer/creator Dan Harmon's story construction process.
Dan Harmon's Story Construction Process
It's just the Campbell/Voegler 'Hero's Journey' really, isn't it - slightly paraphrased?
But then why wouldn't it be, as that's how all stories work anyway.
Interesting to see it applied to a SitCom.

No idea, I've never read any of those sort of books.
Well, now you don't need to!
He paraphrases it quite well.
Thanks for the link Matt. I remember, yonks ago, reading Dan Harmon's guide on story structure for the benefit of the Channel 101 audience. Similar but more detailed read:

Part 2 is here:
Thank you for the link, Matt.
Does anyone know if Channel 101 is still functioning and operational? The site doesn't seem to have been updated for quite some time.
Yeah it's still going. Both the LA and New York versions, the former still being much better IMO. The quality of their monthly shows puts most UK web output to shame. I guess that's what happens when the talent pool is so deep. Be good to have a channel 101 in the UK. It's unlikely to be as good in terms of content but it will at least give comedy makers deadlines, and the chance to hang out together/ forge partnerships. Either that or someone manages to make a successful UK funny or die type website, Surely this will happen eventually?

It says on their submission page that anyone in the world can submit a Channel 101 pilot... Hmmmm.
But why can't you submit via email or online upload?
Yeah. You can. Although postage (for your 'tape') to LA can get pricey. It's also a long way to travel to the screening each month. And the screening and meeting like minded fools is the main reason to submit and take part (or at least it would be for me). I think you should set up the English Channel 101? Oh go on.
Re submitting online or e-mail - they don't have the capacity or desire. Or something like that........

I would, but I obviously don't share that same enthusiasm.
Anyway, sorry to Matthew for hijacking his thread slightly. I'll stop now.
