NJ: That common touch

JANET AND JANE (BOTH POSH) ARE TALKING TO EACH OTHER
FX STREET SOUNDS CONTINUOS
JANET
I hear that lovely Kate Middleton is visiting homeless shelters.
JANE
Yes she is a darling little thing, still she must be used to hard work being as she is middle class. They are so industrious.
JANET
You can't have the common touch with out being a little common. She certainly knew what she was doing when I saw her doling out the soup the other night.
JANE
You saw her? I thought those visits were secret?
JANET
They are I just so happened to be there.
JANE
Volunteering?
JANET
Living there. The house got repossessed after Sebastian was fired by RBS. Now did you want to buy a Big Issue?
JANE
Erm no actually have they got any vacancies, is that soup any good?
JANET
Meh it isn't the Ivy.
JANE
Ooh here comes another one. Spare some change 2 kids in Eton, 2 ponies and an unemployed Merchant Banker to support?
JANET
Big Issue!
STRANGER WALKING PAST
Get a job you lazy scumbags before I set one of mother in law's corgi on you.
JANE
Was that Kate?
JANET
It's nice to see her acting more like one of the upper classes.

firstly would have benefitted from the enter key to space it out :-)

didn't pick up Kate visiting homeless this week...overall I think the sketch absolutely raises a smile, but not much more for me. Not sure the "spare some change" line worked that well...nice concept though.

Damn you cut and paste!

Saw 2 stories in sunday times on wealthy types being impoverished and front page story on the lovely Kate visiting hostels.

But I guessthat's more an editorial view than the news.

Oh well, never mind and thanks for feedback.

nb this was my weakest attempt of this week.

Nice but I think if you moved some text around you could work the double reveal more, e.g.

Ah I see that nicely delays expectations, now to see if I can get my time machine working.

Funny how people see things differently, but I thought this was comfortably the strongest of the three you've posted. Maybe the story needed a Justin intro though, as it wasn't the most obvious one of the week. Timbo's suggestion helps too.

A minor quibble - I wouldn't call characters Janet and Jane, as it makes it a harder read. Make them more distinct.

Yeah, it's funny but competent rather than blow us away funny.

Badge is right on the Janet/Jane thing -- it kind of confused my eyes a bit which probably ruined the flow and, thus, the initial impact you need.

Dan

I always screw the names up

It's pretty basic but I like how there's 2 quick reveals, but its not exactly inspired.
