Skit Comp 17 - 24.9.11 Page 2

Not sure what the choices are exactly? doh..but having a Newsjack comp separate would be a good idea, although I wouldn't combine the two, just run it the same way as the Skit Comp until NJ ends.

The skit comp doesn't get that many entries so to perk it up how about when the comp theme is announced each week, we have 24 hours to add our names underneath, and only those who are on the list can enter. That way it might give people more of a push to commit to writing something...don't know?

The comp probably attracts fewer and fewer entrants because most people consider that they won't ever be able to get up the leader board - so why bother entering?

I know what you mean, Michael, and those who have made it into the top ten probably feel as if they deserve some recognition. That's why if you had a hall of fame (maybe the top 5 or ten, somewhere that you could access to give yourself a bit of a lift when you're not doing that well in the latest comp) then that might help?

How about making the competition quarterly? That way if entrants start late, they can cut teir teeth until the next quarter. At the end of the year, the top four can enter a skit and we choose which is best.

Women.

Jaques and Gill.

A married couple go hill walking.

Jaques; Oh dear I'm falling down.

Gill; Don't worry I'll help.

Jaques; I've hurt my head!

Gill; I have the remedy, you will be Ok.

Later in the hospital.

Doctor; Wow really pleased with progress on your head wound Jaques.

Jaques; Amazed what happened?

Doctor; Your wife, a brilliant result!

Jaques; What was it?

Doctor; Well it was , simply vinegar and brown paper.

Jaques; Will this be available on NHS?

Doctor; OH no, papyrus and acetic acid far too expensive for NHS'!

In the style of Finnemore.

WOMEN.

The women have the vote in Soudi Arabia.

Who will you vote for?

The one who has the neatest ironed Burkha.

See, the comp's already perking up! well done Dellas :)

:) Why thankyou Shandonbelle, have to try sometime!

So should we do something along the lines of:

I vote that the Skit Comp lasts 3/6/12 months
I vote that we have a hall of fame for previous winners only/top 5/top 10
I vote that we have a comp for best rejected Newsjack lines/sketches
I vote that we have a best sitcom mission/sitcom trials reject

Copy and paste and then delete the things you don't want

I vote that the Skit Comp lasts 3 months. It would make it more competitive and give newcomers/latecomers a chance.

I'd go along with that. A top 10 hall of fame is a good idea, and having the list freshened every 3 months or so may help bring more interest as Alex says.

How about we have a rotating theme - one week oneliners, the following week sketches.

I vote that the Skit Comp lasts 3 months
I vote that we have a top 10 hall of fame (refreshing the list every 3 months or so)
I vote that we have a comp for best rejected Newsjack lines/sketches

Edit to agree with Shandonbelle/Alex on the Hall of Fame being refreshed after each 3 month comp.

I vote that the Skit Comp lasts 3 months
I vote that we have a hall of fame for top five
I vote that we have a comp for best rejected Newsjack lines/sketches

Michael - if you put the next Skit Comp up but leave the theme blank then maybe more people will look at the plans to change the comp and will also vote?

I like Kasm and Gerry's idea and also Shadonbelle's about the rotating theme.
And how about making the topics related to recent events e.g. the labour party conference?

I vote that the Skit Comp lasts 6 months.
I vote that we have a hall of fame for top ten.

I like the theme to be fairly loose so that it can be interpreted several ways -
I would not be tempted to write a sketch on the Labour party conference - we are not all Newsjackers!
I am quite happy with how it is at the moment, but would love it if more people could be encouraged to vote on it - perhaps it could be mentioned on one of the permanent threads at the top of the forums that there is a competition and anyone can vote on it whether they have entered or not.

That sort of stuff is covered by Newsjack already though.

Agree with Shirl's idea to attract more voters,
