Televised Court Proceedings
JUSTIN:
Last week, the Prime Minister raised eyebrows by announcing plans to allow cameras inside Britain's courtrooms for the first time. Joining me to discuss this rather contentious issue, is Paula Davies from Open Justice.
PAULA:
Hello!
JUSTIN:
So, I gather your organisation is firmly behind the proposals?
PAULA:
Well, of course we are! I mean, why on earth would a group called Open Justice oppose greater transparency?
JUSTIN:
Fair point. (BEAT) Now, I'd like you to imagine that I'm someone who's sat on the fence, with regards to this particular subject. How would you persuade me to come down?
PAULA:
You mean you want me to 'sell' the proposals to you?
JUSTIN:
Well, I prefer my phrasing...but that's essentially what I'm getting at!
PAULA:
Okay. (BEAT) Now Justin, I assume you enjoy appearing on television?
JUSTIN:
Oh absolutely! You know, as a medium, I much prefer it to radio. (BEAT) Hence why I was reluctant to take this job!
PAULA:
And tell me - how would you feel if you were selected to perform jury service?
JUSTIN:
Well, annoyed - obviously! (BEAT) And inconvenienced!
PAULA:
But, wouldn't you feel less annoyed, if you knew you were going to serve on a televised case?
JUSTIN:
(PAUSE) You know, that does sound rather fun!
PAULA:
Well there you have it - case closed!
JUSTIN:
Actually Paula, I think the jury's still out on this one!
