Bleak Expectations - Series 5
Bit early for a Series 5 thread! 
But nevertheless...
Yeah, it's all down to the execution of course, but I've long felt that Bleak Expectations would really benefit from some sort of TV presence. That working title suggests it's probably not just an adaptation of BE, but I'm more than confident that Mark Evans can weave his magic on telly, so I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it. Hopefully it will be a full series.
So what has happened to Series 5? I have actually joined here just to find out if anyone knows! It was due out on the 7th of June, it's now the 25th & STILL nothing!
The wife ordered it from Amazon as a b/day pressie but it's "not available" & I even went into Waterstones & they checked every supplier they could think of with no luck.
I tried the BBC website but it's impossible to find out ANYTHING on there, just goes round in circles!
HELP, my step-daughter & I are addicted & have just finished listening to all 4 previous series! (I heard a rumour that Series 5 is to be the last, any confirmation)? Thanks.
Series 5 has not yet been recorded (AFAIK - it certainly has not been broadcast), and will be the last.

My response to your statements would be (in reverse order): "Oh B*LL*CKS"! & "Why the hell did Amazon have it listed for sale in early MAY (when the wife ordered it) if it isn't even being recorded yet (in late JUNE)"? I think I'll get her to to cancel the order then, Amazon up to their old tricks again!
It would suggest that Radio 4 are hoping to transmit it shortly - but yes, rather misleading. Have to defend Amazon though; it's up to the distributor (in this case AudioGo) to list items on the site. Keep an eye on our guides, newsletter, and front page, and we'll bring news of its broadcast as soon as possible.

I must admit, despite the fact my son has bought loads of stuff from Amazon with no probs, I'd heard a LOT about how they'd advertise stuff as being 'in stock' when it ISN'T & they have no idea when it actually WILL be (hence the comment)!
I think BE is the funniest thing I've heard on Radio since I used to listen to "I'm sorry, I'll read that again" (AKA "The Angus Prune Show"), which would have been SLIGHTLY before your time (it WAS on after MY bedtime)!

Update! Mark Evans is in the middle of writing Series 5, with recording expected in September/October. They hope to broadcast in the run-up to Christmas.

It STILL doesn't explain why Amazon had it listed back in late Apr/ early May as going to be RELEASED on June 7th, thus 'conning' my wife (& many others I suspect) into ordering it in advance!
It's great news though,(at last), step-daughter & I can't wait (she even has Gently Benevolents laugh as the ring tone on her MOBILE for God sake)!
