The Sitcom Mission 2012 Page 5

Hello All,

Is there anyone out there in the London area who's looking for a partner to write with?
I have an idea that I would like to expand on...but when it comes to the actual writing I have to admit that I need some discipline and help in arranging the crap from the good.

If anyone's interested, then do let me know.

Cheers,
Christian

This is tough, just Googled an idea I had for a sitcom and found exactly the thing I had in mind has already been done in 2007 when a one off pilot was aired. The Google link led me back to here where it had a write up! Just as well I checked first.
Are all new sitcoms totally uncharted ideas? Has every situation already been thought of by someone else?
Back to the drawing board.

I guarantee you the first sitcom I wrote hasn't been done and is unlikely ever to see the light of day in any way, shape or form. Unless there's a sitcom about circus freaks who lose their jobs and wind up in the porn industry sitting on Ricky Gervais' laptop...

:D

I'd have a watch of that.

There's at least two possible options here though:

a) it didn't get made into a series because it's a bad, or at least unpopular, idea for a sitcom

b) it didn't get made into a series because it was a bad execution of a good idea.

Clearly you don't think it's a), or you wouldn't have wanted to do the idea. So go with the possibility that it's b), in which case you just need to make your version better!

The reasons given on why it didn't get made into a series were 'casting problems'. It had a couple of well known names in it, so I'm gathering it was a fairly popular idea at least.
Thanks for the advice, I'd still like to have a go at this as I'd like to write about what I know and have some real life experience of. I'm not sure if I can or want to conjure up a sitcom from some subject I know nothing about.

What was the sitcom about?

A rehab clinic. I've worked in that setting a while ago.

Hold on a minute..now everyone will steal it Errr

Well it's the characters that are more important than the sit. COuld you make it a health resort instead. So people don't say immediately oh yes we've tried the rehab idea before??

Good idea Marc...I do have another work based one up my sleeve. I'll Google it in though first ;)

I only have good ideas! ;)

Why not just write it anyway? As Marc says, it'll all come down to the characters and their stories anyway, if it's good someone will be interested.

I may well do Matthew, thanks.

So...

They tried to make her go for rehab,
She said, "I may well do Matthew, thanks"!

Sorry. Couldn't help it. Apologies to all.

I'll write that in just for you Evan ;)
