I generally liked that smooth jelly sweet. Y'know, the cola bottles and finger rings. I never liked the crumbliness of the jelly babies. Does anyone know what the different kind of sugar/jelly is used with to make them either crumbly and chewy? Whenever I try to describe it to someone, I never have a word. I'd like a word for once.

To answer myself: The word is Gummi.

This is my favourite online sweet shop - http://www.confectionaffection.net/

These were recommended to me but I haven't tried them.

An old fashioned sweet shop opened in our town last year and shut down within a few months. Probably because I don't get out much. Laughing out loud

My favourite sweet shop in Sheringham closed down too. One of my favourites from there was ginger crumbles. I like cloves, fudge and coffee sweets I can't remember the name of. Hard on the outside, soft middle, possibly chocolate. If I could remember what they were called I could get some - anyone?

Cheese and buiscuits. With a glass of port. Or three.

Do you mean the white candy ones or the chocolate ones?

Me and my brother always used to disagree about whether you could eat the paper on the chocolate ones.

My Dad once bought me a giant bag of the white ones when we were on holiday in Hunstanton and I spent the rest of the week feeling sick and never wanting to eat one again. Sick

That's a trick dads do to get you to kick the habit. It worked!

Does anyone make their own sweets? Sugar does amazing things when you heat it, going through many different stages. You can produce honeycomb, fudge of all sorts of toffees and more, very simply, to the highest quality, and in quantity. The only special kit you need is a sugar thermometer, but you can even have a go without one.
