Red Dwarf X Page 5

I wonder if there will be a Holly; can always get Hattie back instead, doesn't have to be Norman, I like both.

Yes, I think I preferred Hattie just because even though she had a lot less lines than Norman ever did, she used to always be sitting in the background of shots pulling faces and reacting to stuff even though you could tell that wasn't in the scripts.

The way she was written out of the show in Series 6 was a shame imo and showed lack of imagination from the writers.
Holly has been shown to exist independently of RD in starbug before that so just because they lost the ship doesn't mean they had to have lost her too.

When the character was brought back and was Norman again I was excited and a little disappointed at the same time.
Hattie got written out because they couldn't think of anything to do with the character and then the next series they suddenly could, but they brought it back without her instead.

She probably has more rights to feel peeved with the series than Norman ever did but she seems OK with it all...

Scripts would have to have to be very advanced to say how the people in the background always react. Besides you shouldn't feel that there is a script, should you?

First trailer for new Red Dwarf!

The look of it is classic Dwarf:

Wow, they all look so much older. Apart from Kryten for some reason.

He's had Robotox

:D
How long have you been lurking on the Red Dwarf thread waiting for someone to provide that feed line?

I find it hard to comprehend the blind faith invested in this upcoming series. Series 7 was pretty bad, series 8 was abysmal and I didn't watch Back to Earth due to this, but the reviews I heard said it had sunk to a new low. I'll probably watch an episode of this out of curiosity, but I sincerely doubt Doug Naylor will recapture the magic of original series nearly 20 years on. If he does, then brilliant. If not, just more tarnishing of the series legacy.

I suppose I'm going on a combination of hope, the many good reviews posted by audience members who seem to think it's got a bit of the old magic back, the fact they've gone back to the old way of shooting it so it will feel more like the Dwarf we love, and I know the script editor a bit, and he's been very positive.

I doubt this far in it's going to turn out to be the best Dwarf ever, but I'm pretty hopeful that it's going to be well worth a watch.

I absolutely loved the first 6 series of Red Dwarf but watching that trailer left me cold.

The laughter sounds massively exaggerated which is one of the perils of having hardcore fans in attendance I suppose. They will laugh at anything...

The actors' performances also seem OTT. Again maybe this is linked to playing up to the hardcore fans.

Perhaps the biggest issue I have with this though is that jokes about Lister liking curry were starting to get old in 1993. To see them still doing that stuff in 2012 just feels wrong to me.

Kryten's nose looking deformed and the fact that they all look disturbingly old now are minor quibbles.

I would expect this to be better that Series VIII which was the show's nadir (they are unlikely to spend 2 episodes covering a dinosaur taking a dump again) and Doug Naylor has had 13 years since the last series to come up with new ideas. It will probably be decent TV but sadly I don't think I can bring myself to watch as I hated the past 19 episodes so much I don't think I could like these characters again.

I require curry jokes in Red Dwarf.

Still don't have super high hopes, but I reckon it'll be alright.

Not as good as the first 5/6 series, but I reckon it'll be more like Red Dwarf than we've seen in years. They had been working on X for such a long time, seems they really wanted to make it right this time round.

I don't mind the trailer. They've only shown basic comedic scenes so hopefully the stories themselves will be good and funny.

And yes, it wouldn't be Red Dwarf without a reference to Curry.

I was rather startled by Kryten's nose as well. Not sure what's happened to it.

Is there a difference between classic and tired, reheated and stale? Back To Earth rested on its laurels to an embarrassing level, drudging up the same old gags and relying on the fans' devotion to find it all terribly amusing.

This looks like the more of the same. The first laboured Space Corps Directive joke from Kryten and I'm switching off.
