Favourite Opening Scene in a Movie?

Quote: Leevil @ August 20 2011, 3:08 AM BST

I love the opening to that film. Where we hear Alabama talking. You just know you're about to watch something great.

True Romance - http://youtu.be/YT-yylPUtx4

Pretty much sums up this thread.

Casino - http://youtu.be/ZHzh6eghVFo - Ignoring the plastic dummy.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day - http://youtu.be/N9YU0hQEZ5M - Mental 80s spirited actionessness (I know it was 90s).

OK, you lot go now :D

I love the opening scene to Return of the Jedi, where C3PO and R2D2 are making their way to Jabba's desert palace. I was so excited, watching it as a little kid.

F**k, this is one tasty thread!!!

Where to begin?

Resevoir Dogs - "You shoot me in a dream you better wake up an apologise"

From Dusk 'Til Dawn - George Clooney's finest hour!!

Inglorious Basterds - WOW!

Fight Club - Just such a cool shot.

Untouchables - so-so film, but devastating first scene.

When A Stranger Calls - "The phonecall came from within the house"

Batman Returns - Beautiful.

Dark Knight - "Hey, where did everyone go?"

The Doors - Morrison's just at peace by this point.

Dumb & Dumber - "Let's put another shrimp on the bar-b"

Goodfellas - "What's that noise...?"

Intermission - Colin Farrell spends ages sweetly chatting up the till girl
then, out of nowhere, just punches her in the face and robs the till.

The Usual Suspects - Enough said.

Watchmen - The Comedian gets his arse kicked.

Children Of Men - Devastating.

Le Samurai - Just an extended long static shot of an hitman lying on his bed smoking, with his bird tweeting in the cage, but, watch this film on YouTube. Perfect.

Goodfellas - in one scene Scorcese turns on its head the "aren't the Mafia cool" ethos and says, "No, they're petty murderous amoral scum." Sunset Boulevard has a classic dead-man-talking opening too.

Any student of the eighties knows it's Betty Blue.

I caught this on BBC2 recently and liked the opening scene: Gomorrah

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Great last scene too!

Noooo! I always want that last shot to change and it never does!

Bladerunner's emotionally-constipated and all style over substance but great opening. "Let me tell you about my mother!"

But if it changes we'll see them deaded and dying! :(

Here's a great one, from Orson Welles masterly 'Touch of Evil'. We see a bomb set, then follow and wait, all in one shot.
