10 year old me :
Quote: chipolata @ August 19 2011, 9:50 PM BSTKids are horrible violent amoral things now so I'm glad I'm not currently at school.
They can be right buggers, but with 2 school going kids myself I know a lot of lovely, kind, caring, nice, sensible(ish) kids too....as Whitney used to say 'I belive the children are our future, treat them well and let them lead the way'.
The brats and looters on the other hand I'd lead to the nearest effing cliff.
I can't remember my first phone's model. It was tiny though (back then).
Quote: Leevil @ August 20 2011, 3:04 PM BSTI used to own this bad boy:
It could make phone calls and even TEXT.
I had exactly that phone up until a couple of years ago, the one I have now is still behind the times but I like to sell the updates they send me on ebay...cunning eh??
My school years were 1973 to 1980 for primary and 1980 to 1985 secondary. On the whole I enjoyed my school years and have no complaints - there seems so much much pressure on everyone nowadays so I would stick with the olden days.
The other thing which doesn't get talked about is that there's this excuse for not knowing stuff because 'it happened before I was born'. The benefit of 3 and 4 channels was that was less choice and consequently there was more quality control. The need to make everything brightly coloured and shouty now at expense of great black and white films is a shame.
I hate how some historical and cultural events cease to have any meaning to later generations. I wasn't around during the war or the 50s but I do at least have some concept in how it affected where we are today.
Grrrr!
To be fair, kids today will learn about the World Wars.

Third of the trilogy?

At least you had a roof over your head. When it rained it was bloody cold in our ditch but we were grateful for the mud pies.
Schooling for me was more about individual teachers; some inspired me, some terrified me and others were a laughing stock. I skived a lot.
My sons had a mix of specialist, mainstream and home education. Mainstream had some good points but not many.
As far as I can tell now, special needs support is still appalling and bullying goes on, though perhaps there is less bullying by teachers as they would probably be sued.

When we studied WW2 I found it boring. It was all about facts and figures.
When my eldest son studied it years later, there was more focus on the personal effect and impact it had on those involved. My Dad was able to talk about it, which he hadn't done with me. It broke my heart, gave me more respect for him than ever and all my sons gained a new respect for him and the elderly.

Were you your Mothers Pride..
Being a teacher in 2011 must be hell. It can still be rewarding, but it must be impossible to control a classroom. I couldn't do it.
You'd get accused of all sorts, too. If you were a man teaching in a primary school you'd get 'peado' thrown at you by disgruntled parents if you dared to shout at little Tommy.

My history teacher "forced" us to watch Blackadder the Fourth a lot. The bastard.

No but I did have a tendency to loaf around, chase crumpet and I learned to roll with the punches.

Dough!
My favourite film was about high fibre baking in the American Civil War.
Scone with the wind.
