School: Your Day or Now? Page 2

I left Secondary School (even though it was named High School) in 2001. I suppose the ones that are a year or two above me would say the same thing. But I'm glad I wasn't a year or two below. Like zooo mentioned, mobile phones were just leeching their way into schools. Only a few had them. When I finally got one, it never had any credit on it. I just used to carry it around like a saddo.

I'm also glad Facebook wasn't around then. I'd hate to think of never escaping certain people from school. Everyone knowing everything about you. They'd be so many school mates, that blocking or restricting access wouldn't matter, someone else would just download that certain embarrassing photo of you or whatever and share it with everyone.

No, I'm glad I went to school when I did. Innocent times (somewhat).

Yes, I agree with that.
I have been online since I was a teenager, but it was *just* after school age, Thank bloody god.
I did still chat to my friends all night every night though, but it was just on a normal phone. (Which is rather weird because I'm now practically phobic of using them.)

Really?! Me too! I avoid making phonecalls at almost all costs. I despise talking on the phone. I've no idea why...it just twists my melon.

I finished school in 2004 and am very glad I'm not there now.

In my final year it was just becoming uncommon if you didn't have a phone. Camera/colour phones were still expensive so it was more about that fact that you had one rather than how many fancy things it could do. I remember most of the kids in their first year of high school that year already had phones. Most of us couldn't figure out why 13 year olds needed phone... although I'm sure people in their early 20's at time were wondering what 17 year old needed phones for.

Facebook wasn't around then but we did have msn messenger and myspace. There didn't seem to be as much issue with them in terms of cyber bullying etc. I don't know if it's because they were still newish back then and research wasn't there or if it was because people only seemed to add actual friends to contact list, rather than everyone they'd ever looked at.

I'm glad I went to school when I did. Even though we did have mobiles, internet etc they were just starting to become everyday in my late teens, so we could remember life before them. I sometimes work with school age teens, and to them fancy phones, facebook etc are just normal. You could argue that they are to all of us now days...I just think that maybe because they really have grown up with them they don't always think of the consequences.

I thankfully just missed out on all this fun. I had two mobiles throughout secondary school, of that time they spent 90% of their time being off.

Also about being on Facebook. if you would want to escape from 'certain' people then simply don't go on Facebook, there is no reason to do it, no reason to post you rlife on it like certain people seem to think. As for photos you can't escape that, apart from not doing embarassing things.

I used to own this bad boy:

It could make phone calls and even TEXT.

How many windows did you break with it?

I had one of those until last month. Sold it to CEX for £6.

Yay!

:D £6! Damn, wish I'd kept it.

It worked perfectly. I think I've been had.

My first phone was a nokia 3315,I thought it was very cool. I've had a few since then but this year needed a new one because my old one was dying. The guy in the shop was explaining one deal to me that had data usage and then a separate allowance for facebook.... I got a strange look when I asked for one with out facebook as I don't use it.

I agree with you but unfortunately kids (and maybe some adults) just don't seem to think like that. Perhaps schools need to teach kids more about online safety and to think before you post..... but I'm starting to get off topic

I was reading somewhere the other day that incidents of bullying in schools have increased dramatically in the last 2 years. I know a few people who work in schools, most of them were students themselves around the same time as me, all of them have mentioned how it seems worse than when we were at school.

Yes, but if a 15 year old at high school doesn't have a FB profile he/she would be bullied. Kids latch on to any kind of thing.

This was my first phone. With a tiny, no-colour screen. Aw.

Hmm. I think I've only had 4 phones in my entire life, which doesn't seem many.

At least you're not this guy.
