Urban Myths & Legends

What are your favourite urban myths or legends? They don't have to be massively well-known - they can be local or even just between your friends/family.

Y'know, like 'Danny Baker accidentally killed Bob Marley by breaking his toe in a football match'.

One of the most often quoted is that Bob Holness played the saxophone on 'Baker Street' by Gerry Rafferty, when in fact this 'fact' was made up by Stewart Maconie.

But Bob Holness was the first man to play James Bond on the radio!

Nice 'Baker' link!

That was the question that beat the Eggheads last week - all 5 of them against one poor young girl. And I knew the answer too.

I think it's disputed who came up with the Bob Holness one but Maconie definitely goes on about it enough to claim it.

The Captain Pugwash = lurid filth myth annoys me still, partly because I was taken in by it for a while.

Seaman Staines and Master Bates? Yes - they do seem plausible.

Actually did you know that Natasha Kaplinsky was bass guitarist in a death metal group?

Thr Richard Gere rumour was started by Sylvester Stallone because he was annoyed with him over something.

But then, it turned out Chevy Chase started the rumour that Sylvester Stallone started the rumour because he was annoyed at him.

Let's start one.
