I reckon that this is a terrible advert for this web site. I've got a friend who I've been urging to have a look for ages & if he sees this he'd wonder what it's all about.

I don't agree with censorship but think if possible it would be a good idea to remove this thread. Does anyone agree?

I totally agree Dave.

Don't stop here. Let's remove all the threads where you're "wude" to Charley.

Easy Johnny, we don't want another argument here, users should just air their view and the moderators will come to a decision. :)

Yawn. Change the record please. This has nothing to do with Charley.

You may (once again) have missed the point.

Ok, enlighten us then. Your post seemed to imply that David only wanted the thread closed because Charley had been attacked, or at very least that in your opinion it is some kind of suspicious coincidence.

Willing to stand corrected...

I'd also like to know where I have "missed the point" in the past. Seems others are missing the point continuously, but don't think I've even been accused of it myself.

David (I thought) found this thread an embarrassment.

I was pointing out the possible embarrassment of threads about racism, missing 4 year olds, et al being used for "wude" exchanges. I think such exchanges are misplaced in any serious threads (including critiques).

I believe you miss the point of forums. I do not believe their purpose is self-aggrandisement.

Thanks Johnny for your views on the matter.

Did I start this thread? It sounds like a thread I'd start? What?! I didn't?! Wow!

Perhaps. But I find it quite intriguing how "wude exchanges" don't start until Alan took part, and in no threads that he didn't.

Laughing out loud

Personally, this thread was the hardest one for me to read through.

In a group of this size, no one will agree on every point. Some comments will be misread as insensitive and some comments will be simply insensitive, but we're still fellow comedy fans and writers and all disagreement can / should be expressed in such a way that it doesn't side-swipe, bait, or insult fellow posters. I'm not implying any individuals here, btw. I'm making a general observation.

I dislike the conflict in this thread but to remove it would be (imo) a mild form of censorship. No one was prevented from saying what they wanted to say (which is as it should be, minus the insults and baiting) but removing it would be like a regime rewriting history.

Keep it here as a lesson on how easy it is to ruin a good thing if we aren't more careful in how we deal with the ideas (however much we agree or disagree with them) and feelings of other users.

Very well said SlagA

I dont understand what has gone on here. Dave stated a valid point & was attacked for it.
Does it really matter if on occasions a thread does go off topic. I have stated my views on this poor little girls horrific story. I am not going to say the same thing over & over.

I'm not concerned about the "off-topic" - just that it doesn't show some people in a good light.

I'll shut up on this thread for now.
