Comedy songs - balancing the comedy and the story

Hi guys,

I've done a Funny Quirky Inspirational Song entitled 'Awesome Love Song' :) It's a story of one musician who dreams big. Real big :)

It's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqagLQMc36w

What I was wondering about is:
- How does one balance the funny bits and the actual story that the song is trying to tell? I mean, is it bad if (supposedly) funny song starts sounding like a 'real' song, and not a comedy song?

Do you know what I mean?

Cheers,

I can't watch your song specifically right now at work but in answer to your typed question, there's a great quote that goes something like "just because your show is a musical doesn't give it license to suck."

If it's comedy, it should be funny whether or not it was set to music. And if it's a song it should sound good whether or not it was funny.

The Lonely Island have been very successful doing funny songs, for one example of the balance that works.

David O'Doherty, too.
