What do you think of product placement? Page 2

Hi guys

I particularly find the increasing use of product placement quite annoying when watching films.

That is why I decided to do my dissertation on the topic, to find out what does people think about this practice

If you could give me minutes of your time and answer the following survey I'll really appreciate it

Also feel free to say how do you feel in here too

Thanks!

That's a tough subject for a dissertation because you will be assuming things the rich studios often deny is happening. I don't think there's a law against it otherwise it wouldn't happen so much. It's widely seen as a distasteful practice but it's not illegal, in fact in America especially, it's just good common business sense.

I'm sure there are many films in the past that used branded products just to set the scene but didn't take payment for them, so there's one reason why this will be a complex subject to write about. And sometimes the film's producers don't know much about it, as in the case of the Carry On films where Sid James had personal deals with distillers and tobacco companies to top up his film fee.

I agree it can get very annoying if it's too blatant.

Oh I dunno with Drs it gives me something interesting to watch.

Well it might but they don't do it on Doctors!

It's probably an attempt to boost DVD sales.

As much as I hate product placement it's almost a necessity for American TV now that most people skip commercials via the wonders of DVRs and/or piracy.

f**king Viva is worse for that

a huge VIVA in the top left

then and even HUGER VIVA - YANK YOUR VIVA in the top right

f**k off nobheads

most TV channels seem to be ran be retards it seems

This was highlighted in an episode of The Simpsons many years ago, when the Fox logo appeared in the corner of the screen, Homer ripped it off and stomped on it.

Laughing out loud Good old Homer.

It is a good survey, made me think about a lot more factors in product placement than I ever have before.

I don't have any strong feelings towards product placement if it's done realistically. Or alternatively completely over the top (See 30 Rock's Schnapple bit) and self referencing.

I hate bad product placement as much as I hate it when shows go out of their way to avoid showing any branding, which for me totally stops me from being immersed in a show.

Yes, I never actually notice them doing it, but always notice when they avoid doing it. Like when they say FaceSpace on EastEnders and stupid stuff like that.

It's sweet when that happens because it makes shows feel like they're set in a slightly different parallel universe.
