Play & Record - BBC... Page 8

Oh no! I feel really bad now. If I've misread this, I do apologise.

I always get excited when someone gets a break.

Cheers all. Thanks for all the support -- it's much appreciated and I'll post them after the recording (or show if they make the final cut!)

Dan

Well done Dan.

That's two peeps we know then who have succeeded to get through on 'Play & Record' one on here and one who lives over on 4laughs, both called Dan..

Congrats to the two Dans!!

Anybody know of anybody else?

:)

Dan the Man!!

Well done and excellent work.

Just to prove that talent *does* exist around here, I know for definite there is one more of us that has had something accepted for Onliners but I'm going to respect their anonymity. Just so you guys know a few people have got through and that it *is* possible!

Persistance is fertile!

:)

Dan

PS I got another point on 4laughs, which is far harder than any of the other stuff! Good week for my writing though!

If I haven't heard from Play & Record do you reckon that's it?

I mean I know my stuff's crap so why bother but I've still not heard!

Hard to say. I would expect a few people to get in as well as Dan, and he did sent his stuff in early.

I just noticed that I didn't put any contact details on my attachment (including my name!) so mine's probably already in the bin.

D'oh! Schoolboy error!

Dan

Apparently they were laughing so much at mine that it got ate by a cyber dog who got the willies...

Oh well

Whistling nnocently

Well done!!!

Hey All

Well, the Play & Record recording was last night and was an excellent experience. It's great to see your sketch performed by proper actors and not just voices in your own head!

Even if you have to wait.

Until the very end.

Of a three and a half hour plus recording session.

Yes, mine was the very last sketch recorded in a recording that is apparently three episodes' worth of material. At that stage I was surprised people were still laughing at stuff to be honest, as three hours of sketches is pretty fatiguing mentally. (We did get a twenty-minute break though).

People seemed to be giggling throughout my sketch which was a good sign, I thought. No belly laughs (that I heard) but it was constantly there, which suggests I did get enough jokes in there after all. There was a bit of a mistake towards the end of the sketch which was re-done, but you could feel the audience lose their momentum at that stage. The ending of my sketch was also cut out too. It did seem a lot longer than on paper, and it was maybe a little too wordy, especially given the urgency it was supposed to be delivered with. Let's hope it gets in, anyway.

Met the producer, Victoria, afterwards who was very nice and apologised for it being so late and not able to buy us a drink afterwards. She thanked us, explained it was a four-episode series and that they're recording the final episode up in Edinburgh next month.

Also met another few writers (all very nice and not falling at the feet of the producer begging to be commissioned) including the infamous 'other' Dan! I have to say his sketch was *very* good, regardless of knowing him or not, and one of the best in the recording IMO.

We found out that about 70% of the material was written by the performers (which'll no doubt annoy a lot of people on here) but they are (relative?) unknowns. I only recognised Katy Cavanaugh ('Mel' from The Cops about 10 years ago!) but didn't recognise the other 11(!) cast members. They were all excellent though, given the variety of accents/dialogue/languages(!) that had to be dealt with.

In half-hour snippets I reckon it'll be good fun to listen to. That's in my opinion, obviously.

On the whole, having something recorded for the first time is a lot of fun! Let's keep it up and see where we get to.

Dan

Sorry to be so late with my congratulations, so here it is. Congratulations! It's always great to be one of the chosen few and so here's to even greater and better sketch writing achievements in the not so distant future. Well done.

Very interesting - thanks Dan!

I'm not surprised the performers wrote most of the stuff, I guess that's quite common, but as I am a terrible actor I think I'll have to squeeze into the shy 30%.
