lol bloody competition sounds big then with 700. You think they ask fo two in case you're a one trick pony? I haven't had a received email yet. I also wasn't sure what material they wanted so I kept it clean.
Play & Record - BBC... Page 3
Daniel, they didn't ask for two, they said NO MORE than two. One sketch is enough to tell if someone can write broadcastable material.
This is why many people get rejected in my opinion, not because they haven't got talent, and certainly not because they're not funny, but simply because their submission is not broadcastable without some work being done on it. This is why the same people always get the gig, because they can deliver exactly to remit.

I reckon most people can write ONE good sketch but not understand what exactly they did to repeat the feat. Or they can nick someonelses and get found out when they are asked to write for spec. That's why they ask for more later.
Contains, they ask for more because they need more. They aren't going to make the shows up using all of the submitted sketches. 700 entries translates to about 400 hundred writers - of which only about 20 will be deemed good enough/the best etc. They will then be asked to submit more stuff - not to prove that they didn't pinch their original submissions, but because those sketches are needed for the shows.
I don't disagree with that Godot, but they'll also vet writers this way too.
I sent two sketches by email and got two auto responces back with thanks for emailing the person and a list of FAQ's.
Nothing else yet!
Did you get that email today or yesterday? And did you send them in on deadline day or before?
General call out - did everyone get an auto-response, because I didn't get one.
I sent 1 sketch
I sent them last Friday I think and got the responce on Saturday.
this is what the main one said for all of you who did not get it
"Thanks for your email.
If you are emailling about the brief for Play and Record on the Writersroom website, please note the following answers to FAQs:
Have you received my sketches?
Yes, if you get this email, it means we have received your sketches. This is a form email which is generated once we have read your email.
How many sketches can I submit?
You may only submit a maximum of two sketches in Word format, by email to this address. Duplicate emails or multiple submissions from the same writer will not be read
How do I submit my sketches?
By email, to this address. Please note though that we only have Word and cannot read other formats. Scripts in Final Draft, etc, cannot be read. If you use a mac please make sure you save your document in a format that can be read on a PC. We don't have time to convert files, and files that we can't open will be deleted.
How long should a sketch be?
Sketches should be as long as they need to be to work, and still be funny. Watch or listen to other sketch shows to get a sense of this. They can be anything from 10 seconds to 2 minute long, but are almost never longer. In fact, 2 minutes is probably a bit too long for most sketches.
I'm an actor, can I audition for your show?
No. Sorry, but the show has been cast. There are no opportunities to perform in the show. We also don't do general auditions for forthcoming projects - if you want to get into performing the best thing to do is to get an agent.
Can I submit an MP3?
Yes, but there are no opportunities to perform your own material in this show so please be aware that you will also need to submit the sketch as a word document if we want to use it.
Can I get feedback on my submission?
No, sorry. We'd like to be able to give everyone feedback but we just don't have time to do that. The production team will only contact you if they like your material. They cannot reply to individual messages, and they cannot give feedback on every sketch that is sent in (700 so far and counting....).
Nope, I have a different question....
We'll get back to you.... But please be aware that we will only reply to questions if they have not already been answered in the brief, so please read the brief again carefully - we think all the answers are in there...
thanks
Victoria"
So where does it say you have to send it in the body of the text and shouldn't be in word?
it doesn't - i sent two word files (.doc 2000 format, incase they not got 2003 or 7 like me and as an attachment)
ContainsNuts, I didn't get that bit either, so I sent a word attachment and copied the sketch out in the email (body) F**k 'em.
I sent two sketches in and have just received the same email response.
Quote: swerytd @ June 20, 2007, 9:54 AMJust emailed Victoria Lloyd re: limit of sketches and format and she replied:
"max two per writer and in the body of one email please. Format should be Word for PC."
Dan
I sent mine just before the deadline so maybe I'll get something today. This is what I was referring too.
That confusing because 'in the body' implies that they want it in the email text but then why do they mention word? Anyway i'm 100% sure they meant attachments. Maybe they meant that both sketches should be in the body of one attachent. Stupid BBC, maybe I shouldn't say that because they might be listening and i'm trying to get a job there.
