Which version of word are you using? We have a new one at work, that noone I know can open the files. It save documents as docx instead of just doc. We have to save files in an older format when sending them to other companies.
Newsjack - Series 5 Page 69
Thanks Park Bench, I don't know what version of 'word' I used?. It all looked OK, but failed.
Why not send a version anyway? I mean it's the last show so whats the worst they're gonna do? Ignore it?
Thanks Soootyj, tried again, but yes it does seem very difficult to send stuff, as a beginner, everyone is a computer wizard aswell as a comedy bloody genious!
Such amazing comedy, So little time Alread- bloody- y.
cut and paste the best 2 or 3 in an email?
When you're saving in Word, go to the 'File' menu, then 'Save As...'. A dialogue box will pop up. At the very bottom of this box there is a 'Save as type:' drop-down menu. What does this say? You want it to say Word Document (.doc)
Alternatively, you can use Google Docs, write it in there, then 'File' >> 'Download As' >> 'Word' and it'll download it in standard Word format (none of this .docx nonsense).
Hope that helps. Let me know if not.
Dan
What is docx, just out of interest?
It's the 'new' Word format (introduced Office 2007, I think). It allows it to contain xml so it's more easily web-based.
Or something like that.
Dan
I won't ask what xml is as this could go on for a very long time! Thanks though
It helps the internet be cleverer. That probably sums it up best.

Appreciate any advice for further submissions, as wasted a day doing this
It's total bollox, they told me that too last week. I said well it was okay my end, plain old Helvetica, and the chap apologised. Must be a problem their end.

An evil invention by Microsoft to really annoy everyone who hasn't paid Mr. Gates a fortune to pointlessly upgrade to a slightly newer version of the same program.
There. Got that off my chest.
That's really what I meant, but put it in techie-speak.
What it really means, is that in about five years' time, when we've all got used to .docx, you'll try and read your older scripts and there won't be a bit of software in the world that will be able to read it!
Dan
Er... BBC use docx too don't they?
FUCK.
Old versions of Word can convert it.
And, by 'convert it' I mean 'usually bring Office crashing to a magnificent halt as it attempts conversion'.
