Newsjack - Series 5 Page 19

In terms of sketches for the next, I was thinking originaly of doing something about the Welsh miners - although I probably won't do so now that we know one of them has died.

Was there a thread somewhere to compare what we've submitted to what gets broadcast?

e.g. I sent
"Alisha:
There is only one word for it - criminal! The arms were all wrong - you should have had some sort of baton at least, or a half brick; the timing was slow - you needed to get out before the police arrived."

which became

"Alisha:
There is only one word for it - criminal! Your hands were all wrong - you should know that you need to wear gloves. etc"

Think my best gag which was cut was (from the same speech) "It was unfortunate you tripped in the middle - being too stoned to use your Blackberry clearly affected your ability to co-ordinate with your partner."

My favourite gag was in the And Finally..., the hurricane katia warning being upgraded. Was that someone on here?

Yes, the Hurricane Katia joke was mine - thank you... I thought it was the weakest one I sent in but there you go, ain't complaining. Mum says the end of the show is missing from the podcast though... Pirate

Best not.

he was indeed meant to be a shopkeeper - it's just interesting hearing something different than you had "in your head" when writing it. Like what they did though - overall I thought it was a strong start to the series.

Best not.

It's alright, I've just written a sketch on a different subject.

There's a Q & A at 1pm today. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4extra/features/newsjack/

Worth a read if you're new to NJ.

Thanks for the heads-up :)

Unbelievable Cotter. Using a webchat for self promotion.

What our Cotter?

God bless he is quite literally irrepressable.

There's another J Cotter?

I thought ours was unique.

Just listened to the first episode. Justin did a good job and I am sure his 'voice' will develop as the series goes on. I didn't submit anything due to heavy work commitments. Well done to all those who got stuff on. I particularly liked Big Jack's Brucie bit. The weather line at the end was really funny as well Burnt Out Hack. It is rude to boast but I have just come up with a cracking correction for next week which I hope will just scrape in under the potential poor taste barrier (read it in next week's rejection thread!

Oh, and nice try Cotter young-fella-my-lad in today's Q and A

Yeah, that's a cracking line, surprised it was edited out!

Just read throught the Q&A. Some useful information there, including a link to the simple formatting guidelines and a wonderful pie chart showing the 'types' of submission they receive. I seem to have everything I need, except the jokes.

From the Q&A: "We got about 500 emails, which we reckon equates to about 1000 sketches and 500 pages of one-liners."

This makes me feel a little better about getting nothing on.

It also makes you feel even better when you do get something on.
