Between the Lines

EXT. PUB CAR PARK - DAY

THE CAR PARK IS FULL. SOME CARS ARE DOUBLED PARKED.

AT THE END OF A LINE OF CARS, A BLACK SUBARU IS PARKED BETWEEN THE WHITE LINES. ON THE END, NEXT TO THE SUBARU, A MINI COOPER HAS BEEN PARKED HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THREE PARKING SPACES.

MINI COOPER
(sadly)
I`m so ashamed!

THE SUBARU SNIGGERS.

MINI COOPER
I wish she wouldn`t do this!

SUBARU
She`s supposed to park you between the lines, not across them!

MINI COOPER
She gets confused and it`s a full moon.

SUBARU
If I were you, I`d drive away.

MINI COOPER
She looks after me though. I can see you`ve been parked...

SUBARU
(slowly)
...Between the lines!

MINI COOPER
(sighs)
Yeah.

THE SUBARU SMUGLY WIGGLES ITS BACK END.

SUBARU
My owner`s an excellent driver! Anyway heads down, here they come.

AS A YOUNG WOMAN AND YOUNG MAN WALK UP TO THE CARS, THE MINI COOPER AND SUBARU FREEZE.

THE YOUNG MAN LAUGHS. THE YOUNG WOMAN LOOKS PROUD OF HERSELF.

YOUNG MAN
I suppose you call that parking?

YOUNG WOMAN
(dismissive)
Oh that! I call it intentional!

YOUNG MAN
You need help! A lot of it!

AS THE YOUNG MAN GETS INTO THE SUBARU, HE TURNS TO THE YOUNG WOMAN.

YOUNG MAN
Watch and learn babes!

THE YOUNG WOMAN FOLDS HER ARMS AND LEANS AGAINST THE MINI COOPER.

THE YOUNG MAN REVS UP, REVERSES TOO FAST AND FINDS HIMSELF STUCK.

THE YOUNG MAN ATTEMPTS TO FREE HIMSELF, BUT EVENTUALLY GIVES UP, THUMPS THE STEERING WHEEL AND GETS OUT.

THE YOUNG WOMAN SMILES, GETS INTO THE MINI COOPER AND EFFORTLESSLY PULLS AWAY, RAISING THE MIDDLE FINGER OF HER LEFT HAND AS SHE DOES SO.

Forget those Mini Adventures, they should use these sketches instead.

Anyway, it's very Jude. With all those CGI dancing robot car ads, I can totally imagine this working.

It wasn't belly laughs or anything, but as with all your sketches, it's very enjoyable and likeable.

This is good, Jude but is it comedy at all? Have you ever considered working in advertising - this would make a really effective car advert. So much talent, it just needs steering (pun intended!).

Yes as always Jude, a little cracker of a piece.

Thanks Leevil, Fred and Charley, much appreciated:D

A good animation I think!

Scott?????

Lol Yeah would be good animation why do I have a Scottish woman's voice in my head for Mini Cooper?

Any huw Hello Jude I liked the sketch although seemed like two sketches sew together. If you can sort some VO's I can prob sort you out with animator to make it up for you.

Thanks Dave and Gav:D

Gav, I know what you mean about the two sketches joined together. I`ll PM you about the animator.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand how the guy is stuck?!

I didn't like the smugness of the woman when she came out, or the bloke for that matter. The beginning is really good and the car characters are really quite likeable. If truth be told, I was a bit disappointed when their drivers came out as thought they'd have a better sketch by themselves.

As said, reads like an advert rather than an out-and-out comedy sketch.

Dan

Pretty much agree with swerytd on this one. Didn't sound like you this time.

Thanks for your helpful comments Losaaverda and Dan:D

I totally understand what you both mean. I really enjoyed writing the first half, then went off in completely the wrong direction!

And you`re right Dan, it does read more like an advert than a comedy sketch.

Well that's women drivers for you!

I agree... would be good in advertising!

Thanks Ellie:D

And Dave, I actually do have a bad sense of direction (lol)!
