Comedy plays - 30 minutes or an hour?

Does anyone think there's any potential in writing short plays for TV or radio that are complete in themselves?

I've got a couple of ideas that really won't develope into sitcoms. They are self-contained stories.

I realise that for TV the costs of building a set for a one-off would probably be prohibitive. However maybe there could be a set with different stories and characters each week.

There's the Afternoon Play on R4 - that's 45mins.
TV? Not a chance, I reckon.
Even when you write a comedy/drama at an hour, they're asking about possible sequels before they've got past the third page.
One-offs mean they keep having to make descisions - and they hate that!

I know they used to do Comedy Playhouse but that was just like trials to see what went down well - and Channel 4 did it recently.

It's probably better looking at ideas that will develop into sitcoms if you looking at the TV market, but hey you know that.

Even internet broadcasting probably needs an ongoing story. Radio is probably the best place for an hour or 45 minute piece.
