The three frame thing seems neater otherwise it seems like a feed line punchlne two liner joke thing.

They may have some legs, whether they can still use them I don't know
If there were a third frame I'd put it at the beginning. Long shot of them sat on a park bench or something.

I'm not sure an establishing shot would work unless it's relevant.
I agree that there's space for a first frame but it would need a line of somekind I reckon.

I think visually an establisher would work better then a pause. But your right 3 panel would work better.
