Oh it is poking fun at the Apollo crowd? I feel a bit silly for not realising that (I didn't read the first paragraph about the Live at the Apollo sign :$)

But even so, I think it is nice to have such an audience and not just have silence or very severe pub-heckling.

Agreed, especially after trying out a couple of amateur nights myself, silence is worse than a heckle for those guys.

But yeah, the target of the sketch is the audience, more so than the lame comedian.

Or 'A bit of both' as I commonly say at posh dinners.

And Bryan, I think you liked the bit more than I did :) I didn't smile once writing it out, I was actually pissed off at watching an old Russell Howard thing on TV, but yeah, since you had my corner I'll co-adopt babies with ya, we'll get a Brangelina thing going on.

Cool

Also... I love Gilliam's films, too! Oh, this is so strange! ;) :D :P Any particular favourite...?

Jack..!! You've gone and spoilt it all..!!!

I don't think people actually realised you were having a pop at live comedy audiences, particularly the Apollo crowd...

You're totally right and it makes my blood boil when audiences drown themselves in fits of laughter over some drivelling, witless piece of 'humour'...

I often think they're laughing because they're too scared not too in case someone else thinks they're too thick to get the joke....

This is what made Monty Python, and others like the Goodies, so popular, they really tested the boundaries. They knew some of their material was rubbish but they got away with it because producers at the time were reluctant to admit it fear of losing a winning top rated show...

And now years later people are still doing the same and you've proved it...

Kudos...

Ah, I didn't get the 'laughing at the audience' angle. I think a better approach would be to have the audience laughing at things that aren't even remotely jokes like: "Hi, I'm John Bishop" and the comedian getting more and more frustrated that he can't get his comedy across. A bit of conflict is always funny.

As with Ben I read it as a parody of the comedians rather than a pop at the audience, a much less problematic target. Audiences at stand up can be bloody annoying. Ben's suggestion is a good one.

Now that is a far more sublime way of getting that point across, and would make a far better sketch. Nice one.

Yes, that's a better idea:

"Anyway, I was walking down the road..."
CROWD GOES MENTAL

etc

'Hello, I'm russell brand'

Crowd laugh so hard they empty every bit of fluid in their body and rate this comedian highly.
