No - Extras was Ricky Gervais.

Christ, you're right, I'm being a total doof. I meant Episodes of course, although Extras fits the bill also.

Started with a 'E' though!

As have many great nights.

Episodes is a comedy about a former sitcom star (playing himself) who isn't sure what he wants to do next. Basically, I found it very funny, original and seriously under-rated. I loved it!

Matt Le Blanc was great in it by the way. Grey haired and taking the piss out of Joey. Respect!

Some new writers spend far too long trying to think of a setting first.

Their time would be much better spend inventing brilliant, memorable characters first.

This quote should be framed and hung in aspiring sitcom writers' writing rooms. Because it is very right indeed. Reading theses boards, so many aspiring writers seem to be obsessed with settings. Settings are subserviant to characters, always.

An original looking location won't be anything without a memorable character within it. I'd say find your character that makes you laugh, and if they are based on a bus driver and you don't want to do another busdriver sitcom then make them something else.
