Angry Boys Page 9

After the models agent wrote to gran saying she couldn't go Nathan choose Tim to take her place at the party, I think Dan did call Tim a fag at this point but choose to invite hime for Nathan.

At the start it was stated that Dan is a surfer (connection to Blake) and Natahn is a skater, which would explain why he likes Tim, not nessesarily because he is gay (his wall of ledgends is two walls full of half naked women, his computer is packed with porn that Dan catches him wanking to loads [Which is a bit to much effort to go to just to cover up being gay])

If either of the boys did turn out to be gay I would suggest it would be Daniel rather than Nathan. A few of his scenes he has given off a kind of gay vibe and at one point I thought this was one of the reveals Chris was building up too. may just be a coincidence or it could even be a diversion to throw previous Chris Lilley fans off the scent (since most of us know his formula of comedy by now)

Thanks Jamey. I missed that brief mention of Tim earlier in the series. I'm looking forward to seeing how it ends. I've never watched any of his stuff before so its all new to me.

I would doubt that either Dan/NATHAN! turn out to be gay, its a bit on the boring side for a huge 'reveal'.

I think the last few episodes of this have been quite poor. The show seems to be going in endless circles, with variations of the same gag and situations week after week. The whole Nathan/Daniel thing is just boring now. And I'm not sure about Gran with Alzheimers. It feels tagged on, rather than any desire to deal with a serious condition.

Again, after the heights of Summer Heights High and We Can Be Heroes, this feels very flacid.

I am deconstructing this metaphor and am not happy with the image. Chip you are enjoying comedy a little too much sometimes I fear. :D

I don't know what you mean, Marc! Whistling nnocently

"Angry Boys" finished here in Australia last night. The last two episodes have proven very fulfilling dramatically and have got the tear ducts working more than once. The final sequence is a coup.

I thought this week Nan's character moved too far into drama and away from comedy.

Wave
This is a strange series. The laughs have definitely dried up but for some reason I cannot stop watching it.
The bit with Gran in ep 11 was particularly moving and when she was telling Dan that she hadn't contacted the Legends I could hardly watch it was so sad. As a comedy I'd rate this at around 4 out of 10 but as a comedy/drama I'd rate it 10.
I imagine I'll feel an emptiness at 10.30 on tuesdays when it finishes next week. Huh?

Wait till you see next weeks episode, I cried, AGAIN, thanks a bunch Chris Lilley Unimpressed

Just saw the final episode. Such a great ending (I nearly cried too).
Brilliant series all round. I think he got a great balance of comedy and drama. I shall now have to seek out his other shows that I've missed.

I agree the final moments were very good, although overall I think it's been a disappointing series. The material was patchy and stretched way too thin over twelve episodes. Six punchier ones would have worked far better, preferably focussing on Gran and the young offenders institute, since she was the only character that really engaged my interest.

A real anti-climax after the brilliant We Can Be Heroes and Summer Heights High.

It was certainly a slow burner. The last couple of episodes were pretty incredible though and I can't remember many, more 'touching' scenes from any other sitcom.

Lilley himself seems like he'll maybe be one of the great underated comedians of our time, no real spotlight on him considering his obvious talent/genius.

And I say genius, because I don't think there's anyone else around that could have pulled of the spectrum of emotions that perfectly suited each character he played in that series, it was quite incredible.

You're so English. Can't handle anything longer than 6 episodes!

The last couple of episodes were really poor in my view. They jettisoned almost all the humour and what little drama there was. And switched it for simple manipulative emotional manipulation.

That the idea was this whole big story was about 2 brothers being separated, was touching and low key. But it wasn't worth it for all the boring witless crap about squashed niggers, perforated scrotums and cock cushions.

The show rolled over and died when they leavered in that dreadfully unconvincing storyline about Nan's Alzheimers. Thus killing off the only consistently funny character.

Do better next time Mr Lilley
