On one shoulder sits the creators angel, on the other, the fetid breathed dragon of the creators nemesis. I have been swayed into atheism, but I appreciate the view of Mr P.
Like a slow puncture in a paddling pool, I let myself down, a quick plaster, repair & once over should be sufficient rectifying behaviour.
"You ever been scared, Bob? You don't mind me calling you Bob, do you?" *stubs out cigarette*
Oooooooooh.

And now a contribution to the debate by Ken Clarke. Apparently we have "serious rapes and other categories of rape."
It's a good idea to have different categories. The plea bargaining bit is a separate issue I reckon.
I think Ken makes an interesting and persuasive argument.
All crimes have degrees of seriousness.
Automatic severe sentences put juries off convicting, perpetrators confessing or even guilty victims pushing charges.
Not to mention prison is massively expensive and ineffective.
Keeping a dangerous fellon off the street for 5 years means you still have to deal with him.
Short, effective sentences and effective lifelong monitoring is the route.
