It's just been announced that BBC Four looks set to get rid of most of the station's comedy and drama programmes, focusing on the arts. If this is the case, it would appear that the follow-ups to Næturvaktin won't be shown.

That rather depends on whether they've already bought the rights or not.

Enjoyed this - only just getting to the end of watching it, because it was delivered in such large lumps on BBC Four. Just ordered the Day Shift and the Prison Shift DVDs.

Just returned from Iceland and met an English guy working in their national museum. He told us about Dagvaktin and Fangavaktin and that they could be bought locally on DVD so I got them (at about £60 but in theory I can claim the 20% VAT back).
He also told us that "Georg" was now the mayor of Reykjavik having founded a party called "The Best Party" and having passed quite a bit of controversial legislation. Local opinion about him seems to be considerably divided! When you see pictures of him with hair he looks totally different and much younger but he obviously shaved it to get the Lenin look.
And yes - there is a band called Solin and they are apparently well known.

Hi, just adding little info to the thread. I saw the Næturvaktin and then got me the rest on DVD's. Seems to be the most popular series from Iceland now...
Here is little about Jon Gnarr :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%B3n_Gnarr

I got all the DVD's from http://shopicelandic.com/en/store/dvd-s

This is the best I have seen from Iceland so far... just pure fun from the beginning to the end :D The actors grow with every episode.. so funny characters.

Greetings...

Can they afford to many shows, Iceland?

There is also a documentray about Gnarr's Mayoral campaign-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cTAJNxwur0

"The Best Parties agenda was simple honest, and outrageous In these hard times Mr. Gnarr wanted a secure, comfortable, and highly paid job with absolute power to hire his close friends for all the other important and influential jobs as well. The party promised an incorruptible and a drug free parliament by the year 2020 and Mr. Gnarr made it clear that he would not talk to any of the other party's unless they had watched the entire 5 seasons of the 'The Wire.'"

For those interested, The Huffington Post has an interview with Jon Gnarr.

It's made my day that you can buy these DVDs - I yearn to see Naeturvaktin again. I loved it.I only saw the first one when they were aired on BBC4 and I've occasionally suffered from moments of sadness that they don't seem to have repeated them (or else they have done so when I've been in reclusive no TV mode) I'll try that 101 Reykjavik too.

The show reminded me of Magnus Mills' books, especially his earlier ones.
