Delivering a gag

Hiya,

I simply cannot deliver a gag, or any other sort of story, because I get too excited when I get towards the punchline. I've inhereted this off my old man, although he's not actually that funny. I am funny however but not everyone notices this because I am so crap at talking. Thus, I often don't bother telling people any of my funny stories because I know I'll ruin them and they won't be funny.

There's loads of things this could be to do with ie, confidence etc. But I'm hoping someone knows of a mental switch that I could push and everything will be ok.

This is a cry for help, can anyone give me a push in the right direction please?

ta!

bloody hell just realised I've probably posted this in the wrong area forum.

Rob I used to be exactly the same, what I have found is that by rehearsing just a few lines from whatever gag or story I was telling the rest would naturally slow itself down. It doesn't need to be a puchline or climax of a story but the begining and a bit in the middle can work just as well, also pausing to gauge peoples interest helps. It is sometimes a lack of conifdence that makes us want to deliver things faster. If we think people are not liking it we speed up and want to get the rejection over faster. Thats my experience anyway.

Finally, I used to be known as Mr Mumbles, now I'm just an annoying (but funny at times) pain in the ___________ (add your own word here)

Hope it helps

I'm forbidden from making jokes in my local, it's a gag inn order.

I'm especially banned from making jokes in pubs about 2 roads crossing. It's a super inn junction.

You are hereby forbidden from making any more jokes full stop.

This is top advice from a top set of people. Big thanks.

It kind of is my style but a lot of people don't buy into it, you kind of have to know me first or you simply will not get it and basically will think I'm weird, possible a bit of a dick'ed as well.

Will stick at it though, I seem to be getting a bit better now I'm aware of the issue.
