8 Out Of 10 Cats - Series 11 Page 4

I think this week's, being a compilation, was more spontaneous than a finished programme. Watch it - you'll enjoy it.

How much of these spontaneous shows are rehearsed or pre-planned? Rob Brydon's send-up of a panel show has guests being given funny lines to say. And I've noticed on 8 Out of 10 Cats and Mock The Week, panellists reading and turning over pages on their desk.

I'm pretty sure they're told what the chosen topics will be on MTW, even where it's not obvious. So while they're not necessarily given lines to say, they are given time for them (or their writers) to come up with jokes in advance.

A really curious decision to bring it back a month after the last series ended, and one I think they might regret (first sign of Jay Hunt's presence at C4?) And at 10:30pm? I realise that puts it out of the way of the BBC's very strong comedy block, but that still raises the question of why bring it back so soon if it couldn't be put in its familiar timeslot.

Also, there'll be a two-hour block of panel shows on telly for four weeks, albeit across three channels - some kind of record?
