Networking

As with most popular career paths, at least half of a writer's success is not what they know but who they know. Just thought it might be useful to have a thread on networking, how to get to know people in the biz, who people already know and perhaps tips on how to get your foot in the door so to speak. So if anyone has any thoughts, tips, stories, successes, then this is the place.

I'm thinking that doing some work experience for free at a production company would be good for networking. Has anyone done this?

There's a nice producer at a production company who lets me submit ideas, after submitting a script. She thought the script was to similiar to something they had already done. So, at least there's a glimmer of hope.

I'm hoping to hear back soon about a treatment.
