£15 for Funny Women

Hi,

Surprised that there is no thread about the Funny woman competition charging £15 entry? What do we all think? Ladies? I'm thinking of doing my own night to raise money and awareness for women... mock-up poster...

What do you think of the topic as a whole? Are women treated bad?

Awareness of women gullible enough to spend £15 on entering a comedy contest?

You sly old dog.

Tell you what, I'll give you £25 for two funny women, or £20 for one funny woman with low self-esteem... Cool

you'll giv £500 and have Victoria Wood and like it!

I'll see your £25 for two women and, er, that's it. Quite cheap for a night out I think.

I hear the clucking of broody hens...

I'm sure there will be some less than cerebral responses on here so I'll not get into this, I just want to share the link to the 'boycott' Facebook group:

Lots of high profile comics have spoken about this. Pay 2 play is always a bad thing. Full stop.

Cluck cluck cluck...

Shocked.

I don't know. Maybe if they'd charged an entrance fee for the BBC New Comedy Awards we'd have been spared the career of Justin Lee Collins?

Anyway, it's probably more dignified to have to pay for a stand-up spot than in the old days, when you had to blow the club owner in order to get a gig.

*applies Zovirax ruefully to lower lip*

I think it's stupid.
But is it any different to most writing competitions which almost always charge at least £5 or up to £20 enter? (Not that I've ever entered one of them.)
They're all rather annoying.

My biggest issue with the Funny Women comp is the entry form.

You need to provide your Date of Birth and a Photo, but no video link to show you performing.

Why do they need to know how old or how attarctive / ugly you are?

Doesn't seem to be very empowering.

TBH that poster is a bit lame, I think it would be better if you used real tits. I'm sure Tim will pose for you.

A photo? Yikes. That does send a weird signal.

That's sexist!

Thanks for the link though, there's some fitties on there, maybe I should pretend I agree with them.

I'm surprised this is run by a woman though, sounds like a piss take run by a fellow misogynist on the face of it. And it's in its 2nd year? The plot thickens...

It's been running 9 years.
