Anyone else seen this awful, awful advert? I'm not quite sure what the point to it is, but I'd guess some new pathetic attempt to embarrass the British public into paying for overpriced, under-worthy goods, as opposed to reasonably priced copies. The song is just horrible, and doesn't scan at all. Awful, awful ad.
Knock-off Nigel
What's it an advert for? Is it the public info film?

I assume so.
It's what happens when bad marketing departments try to appeal to the yoof market. Presumably some old geezer in the meeting thought kids would be going around calling each other 'Knock off Nigels' once they'd seen this trendy new advert.
When you say 'old geezer in a meeting', Do you mean someone over the age of, say 30?
This advert isn't designed to appeal to the youth market at all. It's designed to stigmatise ABC1 males – ie middle class and lower middle class men, who buy bootleg DVDs, hence the use of the name 'Nigel'.
'The kids' would not feel stigmatised by their peer groups for doing this, because they don't have any money so it's not shaming behaviour. Once you get into older social groups, avoiding paying for something can be applied as a stigma, because you (theoretically) have the money to pay the full price.
It's an assumption that young people sometimes make that everything on TV and in the media apart from teflon-coated trousers and walk-in baths is aimed at them. It's not.
That's excatly what I was thinking Godot, how much to liverpool street?
Depends where you're coming from.
My house at the end of my street
