Oh! So that's what that song was about.

Have you ever been listening to a song that you may have heard a few times before..
And suddenly you concentrate on the lyrics and think Oh! I get it now.

I was listening to 24 Hours from Tulsa properly.
I thought he loved some girl in Tulsa that he was 24 hours away from.

Turns out he was a day away, and got shacked up with some girl in a hotel stop
Was leaving his missus & wanted to apologize in song.

Bit like dumping someone over text.

Great thread. Until now I thought the same as you.

Not me, but I know a lot of people think Every Breath You Take is a love song, to the extent that it is sometimes played at weddings.

I always thought Gordon LightFoot's 'If I could read your mind' was a beautiful love song... then I really listened to the words...

'If I could read your mind love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind that drugstores sell
When you reach the part where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you won't read that book again
Because the endings just too hard to take'

It took me a while to realise what the song 'All I want to do is make love to you' (cant rem the singer now) was about, and I detest the song anyway, but someone pointed out to me it was all about her having a one night stand in order to conceive

Isn't 'Wonderful Tonight' about a fella in a wheelchair?

No.

That's a horrible and selfish thing to do, zooo. Do it via the BCG so we can all enjoy it!

On of the more famous ones I suppose, Is David Gates " I would give everything I own " Covered by Ken Booth & Boy George.
Which at face value might sound like a love song to a lady but was actually written about his Dad.

And Michael Jackson's Ben is about a rat, rather than a young boy as you might expect.

:D

Was a while before I cottoned on to what the Beatles Day Tripper was about

Great thread, which I'm going to sidetrack slightly; on the x-factor style dance show, So You Think You Can Dance, one of the panel berated a dancer by saying
" you need to really think about what the 'p' means in performance, and in personality".
WTF did she mean? What does the p mean? In the absence of an answer, I can only assume she was a stupid old bat who was talking bollocks.
