Stand-Up for the first time

Hi everyone.

I'm new to the forums here. And I hope some in here would be able to answer my question(s)!

So I have recently signed up for at Stand-Up show and I have no idea on how to do stand up. The stand up show is at my school and only students will be attending, but the real reason I signed up was that the price for winning is 2 tickets to the movie theater, and if I win I'm going to take out the girl I like :) - What a love story.

So I wanted to hear if any experienced stand up comedian could answer some of my questions. I have read alot on the internet and so on, but I want some answers that helps me in this specific situation.

Note: Im only going to be on stage for 3 minutes :)

So my questions are as following
- How much should I prepare?
- How do I avoid total fail?
- Should I tell stories?
- How do I win (Make people laugh)

Any other good advice is also welcome.

Thank you everyone.

Best Regards
Jensen

My advice, for what it's worth...

1. Prepare 3 minutes worth of funny material (you might want to prepare more then whittle it down), don't just memorise it, but practice how you're going to perform it, and remember how to perform it.
2. See above... You could try talking to the audience if you somehow forget your material, I imagine asking them their name, then asking what they do could go down quite well under the circumstances.
3. Tell stories if they're short, snappy, and funny, yes.
4. Ripping the piss out of the school and teachers would probably go down well with the students, though I probably wouldn't take it too far!

If there's likely to be heckling then try to have some funny put downs ready.

I'm only helping you 'cause you're Danish, but my advice could be worthless! Who knows.
