Baby Cow

Hello, I'm Sam.

I was wondering whether it's a common occurance for baby cow to 'express interest' in your work? And if so how common?

Thanks,

Sam

Not me yet. They got the name of my sitcom wrong and told me they would not be taking it forward. Sounds promisingfor you...

Ooooh.
Nice one. : )
Who did you send it to there?

Not that I'm innapropriately nosy or anything.

Yeah, I hope so. They didn't say "It's great!" or anything like that. But they did say that they would like to see more, so I assume it can only be a good thing.

I sent it to the generic scripts thing that you can find on their homepage. I sent it on the 30th of April, and they only replied mid last week, so it took over a month for a reply. Ironically, I have been experiencing the horrors of Virgin Media's 'brilliant' broadband all week and I only got the email tonight.

Ah yes. That sounds promising! Definitely a good thing.

They make some of my favourite shows.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, although one of my friends was present when I opened the email and started hysterically screaming "Oh my God! Oh my God!".

But I won't know if I leapt over the first herdle or scraped it until he emails me back again, and for all I know it could be another month.

Well done. Just over a month seems bloody good to me. BBC takes about 6 or 7 months.

I've got something in mind too. Would they be a good bet?

I`d go for it David, you`ve got nothing to lose.

Recently I sent the synopsis, treatment and first ten pages of my sitcom Perfect Partners to Baby Cow, they responded four weeks later and asked for the script plus further episode details.

Unfortunately things didn`t go any further, but apparently it`s a real achievement to get a script read these days, so despite the rejection, I was delighted.

I think it`s great that a production company are actively encouraging and interested in new writers.

Thought I`d pass the information on.

Well done Sam and good luck:D

Thanks Jude - I'll give it a go. When it's ready that is but it's developing nicely.

Baby Cow do seem to be quicker these days in responding, so it is worth sending something their way.

Jude, were the ten pages you sent the same as the ones you posted here?

Can you post your synopsis and treatment as well? I for one would be very interested to read it.

Hi Sam

Baby Cow is a good outfit. Several years ago I sent in a couple of sketches to them purely on spec and within a month they invited me to contribute to the first two pilot shows of what later became the all star sketch show and were quite decent in keeping in touch.

None of my stuff was used on the broadcasts but it certainly was a positive experience for me.

Best of luck with your stuff.

Yes, it was the same ten pages I posted here.

The synopsis is already on here, I posted it on 22nd May, but I don`t know how do a link!

I`ve posted the treatment on the critique thread so you can have a look.

well done sam, it is excellent to have any positive reply from a production company.
it happened to me many years ago with a company called alamo. nothing ultimately happened with it but it was a good experience.
my one tip would be to make sure you have a couple of other ideas sketched out to treatment stage. many writers seem to get too focused on their one big idea. if that falls by the wayside you will have others to pursue.
good luck!
