White Van Man - Series 1

This starts tonight. From the trailers I've seen, the signs don't look good. And it'll have to go some to beat Superhans and his white van in series six of Peep Show.

Is this from the same people as the 'Two Pints' kind of shows? Doesn't look like my cuppa, I must say.

But it might be brilliant and I'll miss out!

It does look a bit Two Pinty. And Will Mellor represents everything that's wrong with British manhood.

I saw a proper clip of this the other day, and it looked alright. It wasn't like Two Pints.

I'm looking forward to it, and aside from the star, haven't seen any indication it's anything like Two Pints. It's not from the same 'team'.

Might also be completely off base, but it felt a little more like a Gavin And Stacey style thing; there was a bit of emotion and drama in there. Anyway, it was one scene, might be completely wrong.

A couple of actual proper laugh out load moments in there. Good stuff.

Episode two in a moment!

Am recording it now but the clip I've seen looks quite promising. Will Mellor was on BBC Breakfast this morning and likened it to a comedy drama, making the point that it wasn't set-up punch, set-up punch every two lines. As far as I'm concerned that's OK.

He said Ep. 1 was a bit chaotic but that it settles down from there onwards.

Wasn't for me. Not least because I'd like to punch Will Mellor repeatedly in the face.

I enjoyed it. It wasn't a conveyor belt of gags, but did well to set up the characters and has left itself with plenty of places to go.

Since Will Mellor was in it, I expected it to be very Two Pints-ish, but was very restrained if anything.

As someone said above- more comedy drama than straight up comedy. Will definitely be watching again.

Maybe it's just because I watched 3 episodes of the very funny American show 'Community' back-to-back right before I watched it, but this wasn't for me.

It's another one where they try and get away with it not being that funny with the get-out clause 'It's got drama bits too'. At least Mrs Brown's Boys has the balls to say 'We think this is funny.'

Maybe I'm just in a 'snappy dialogue' mood...

Community:
Abed is casting his student film.

Abed: Jeff, you'll have to play the part of my dad.

Jeff: I don't wanna be your father.

Abed: See? You already know your lines.

I'll have to see this then, if you say it's another comdram type sitcom. I'm really interested to find out why the Beeb has sunk into this groove/rut of making comdrams in the sitcom slot.

Are they trying to redefine the sitcom? Are they just trying to make ammends for the clutch of appallingly silly and childish sitcoms they put out a year or two ago (although Miranda is still flying the flag for them)? I really do find this current trend thing puzzling. They are definitely in one at the mo, that is for definite.

But does it mean that all new scripts that come their way have to follow this format? I cannot see that the comdram is the easiest form to pick up for new writers wanting their breakthrough, because it just isn't! Doesn't it just mean they will be using the same old writers even more if they continue this current trend of of comdram? And I thought they were telling us a few months ago it was cheaper to make studio based sitcoms? Anyone know what that lot are up to?
