The Royal Tapes

I saw this in the BBC Writersroom newsletter. Its a competition to write a short 'two-header' about the Royal family (not that one the real one) to be performed by Allistar McGowan and broadcast on Five Live. Closes Friday the 29th June at midday. Heres the link.

And in a shameless plug here is the link to my draft attempt. Any comments would be welcome.

Thanks for the link AJP, that's a great prize.

is anyone here going to the London workshop?

Went to the Brum workshop, which was nice

What was it like? Did you have to have something prepared?

No, not at all.
You may get the chance to put a few ideas forward and think on your toes with the people sitting around you.
But really, it was just general bits of info and ideas/inspiration plus a chance to hear previous winners of similar contests and comment on what worked and what didn't.
However the woman who lead the session was based in Brum, so you're likely to get someone based down your end heading up your session.

Are you allowed multiple entries on this competition, or just the one?

Oh crap I haven't entered yet, doh i'll be up all night now (as usual)

I sent mine in Monday Angelic got the standard "thank you, lots of entries, results announced the 9th" email back. I don't know if you can enter multiple times.

Yes, you can enter multiple times. That was a question at the workshop I went to, though the guy appeared vague.

Deadline approaching...

Damn I just caught wind of that now

Let us know how you got on AJP.

I'll tell you in my suicide note

In the Royal Tapes FAQs bit it said you could submit two, each 3 minutes long. Since mine initially came out at six minutes (surprise, surprise!) I chopped it in half and sent in a Part 1 and Part 2 each of 3 minutes that way. Part 1 more or less stands up on its own although I personally prefer Part 2 (that doesn't!). I really hope one of us gets something accepted (especially me of course!). Hey I've just been away a few days driving around Northern Valencia with she who does the navigating. Bloody hot and they keep putting in new roads (all EU funded of course!) but they haven't got around to labelling the darn things yet (like where they lead to). And you can bet that if somewhere is signposted as 5 Kilometres away ... that's only if you're a crow ... it's really more like 40K up a ruddy mountain and then down the other side, usually behind a bloody great truck doing all of 20K per hour (Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, etc., etc., etc!). Quite nice to be back!

p.s. Anyone got a list of who Alistair McGowan can do ... bit late now but what the heck!?!
