Duty Free or Benidorm?

These two holiday-based sitcoms both have their memorable comic aspects. Duty Free with the longest holiday romance ever between David and Linda, and then you have Benidorm with its enthusiastic swingers and a transvestite hotel worker.

For me, Benidorm is the best of the two, but what does everyone else think?

Yeah, Benidorm for me. I've never managed more than a few episodes of Duty Free, so it's not entirely a balanced judgement, but I suppose is indicative of how I feel about that one!

Duty Free? I shit it!

Only seen one Benidorm episode (the one on now) but it's infinitely better than my recollection of Duty Free.

Long time since I saw Duty Free but I seem to recall a memorable tragicomic turn by Keith Barron in the lead and a solid Eric Chappell script.

I only ever watched one episode of Benidorm and I couldn't work out what were supposed to be the funny bits.

They are decades apart - so the comparison is a little unfair

But I loved Duty Free and have never cared much for Benidorm (1st series good not the rest)

Keith Baron was great, as was the man who played the other husband.

Didn't the sets wobble on Duty Free?

Agreed. Baron's very talented and its a shame he's never been used much in modern sitcoms.

I'm not sure I have any idea what Duty Free is.

Wasn't there a point in your life, bigfella, when the walls in your house wobbled? ;)

Hmmmmmmm.

The other women was pretty hot from what I recall. I was probably only ten at the time though.

:) Duty Free is SO much superior in every way.

Except being funny.

I watched Duty Free first time around and remember we never missed it in our house. I saw reruns a while ago and felt that it didn't really stand the test of time.

Benidorm was good when it started, but (IMO) I think it's well passed its sell-by date now. I sort of watch it as a guilty pleasure now and then but only sort of. In fact have yet to watch recorded eps I&2 of the latest spasm.

So there you have it...the definitive answer to which is best.

Err...haven't a Scooby. Sorry

I have a certain fondness for the broad farce of Duty Free. It seems to come from a more innocent time than Benidorm.

Has to be Duty Free - though you can't really compare...
