A Little Respect

Opening scene of a possible episode for a sitcom centred around two unlikely teenage friends. The plot is not fully developed but I was wondering whether anybody liked the comedic content. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

"A LITTLE RESPECT"

ACT ONE

FADE IN:
INT. 'PETE'S CAR' - MORNING - CONTINUOUS
PETE LEWIS is driving his friend HARRY DAVIES to the beach. Both are around seventeen years old, HARRY is good looking, acerbic and witty, PETE is dim and ugly but good-natured. They seem an unlikely pair of friends. HARRY lights up a cigarette and reclines in his seat. Loud music is blasting from the radio but PETE turns it down.
PETE
Am I ugly?
HARRY
Yes.
Harry turns the music up again but PETE readjusts the volume.
PETE
What, really?
HARRY
Yes Peter, you look like a toad that's been involved in a near-fatal traffic accident.
PETE
I'm not that ugly am I?
PETE checks the rear-view mirror and runs a hand over his short blonde hair. While doing this HARRY turns the music back up even louder than before but PETE pushes the power button and turns to HARRY.
HARRY
(irritated)
Last thing I heard the Elephant Man was trying to sue you for breach of copyright.
PETE
Susie Peters didn't think so.
HARRY
You've never even seen Susie Peters, you stole her number out of my phone.
PETE
She thinks I'm funny.
HARRY
Well your not the normalist of fellas.
PETE
No, she think's I'm hilarious actually.
HARRY
You are many things but you are not hilarious. Christ, I thought sarcasm was the lowest form of wit until I met you.
PETE
She's really nice.
HARRY
She's two nuts short of a squirrel, in fact she's also two squirrels short of a nut. She traps woodland creatures and tortures them, told the psychiatrists it's because she was bullied by Raymond Otter at school.
PETE
Yeh, I suppose she is a little eccentric.
HARRY
Aye, just a tad.
HARRY looks at himself in the sun visor mirror and smiles.
HARRY (CONT'D)
Look, you may be dumb as mule and have a face more punchable than David Cameron's scrotum but I still love you.
PETE turns to look at HARRY incredulously.
PETE
Really?
HARRY
No, of course not you fat wanker.
HARRY sniggers to himself and PETE looks dejected.
PETE
Give us one of them ciggies.
HARRY lights a cigarette and hands it to him.
PETE (CONT'D)
I'm quite looking forward to today, it'll be better than lessons anyway.
HARRY
Why I agreed to come with you is anybody's guess. I hate beaches, screaming children, 50 year old women in thoughtlessly skimpy swimming costumes, dog shit everywhere... it's like spending the day at your house.
PETE
It'll be fun, I promise.
HARRY
The last person you promised fun to ending up taking you to court for sexual harassment. They never should have let you work in that nursing home.
PETE
It'll be fun, I bought a footy and a kite, it'll be like the old days.
HARRY
What would have been fun is me sitting in The Star, drinking twelve pints of lager and retching up my stomach lining onto the carpet. Not partaking in schoolyard frolics in the middle of nowhere with a man whom Charles Manson would describe as 'a little odd'.
PETE
Just give it a chance, we'll be there soon and look..
PETE looks out of the side window.
PETE (CONT'D)
The sun's come out, I knew it would.

Welcome aboard GJones. Full marks for posting your efforts. I found the humour lacking; not very punchy. The dialogue didn't seem to ring true.
The chat between two shoolboys, for me, was too formal. BUT for a first effort it was mildly amusing. Try to give your characters authentic voices. Make the dialogue sound realistic. A small clue: Write as you speak, not as you read.
Best of luck and power to your pen.

i enjoyed it, made me giggle. I suspect its a little "inbetweeners" inspired, some great lines, I really do wanna punch "david camerons scrotum". However, I do agree with the post above, "didn't ring true"

There's a couple of good lines in there but Pete doesn't get to say anything even vaguely interesting and Harry doesn't appear to say anything that isn't some sort of insult relating whatever he's talking about to something else.

I really like the lack of sentimentality between these two friends - dynamics like this work well in comedy. Perhaps the dialogue could flow a little more naturally in places, but I think the premise is quite amusing and has a lot of potential. There are always relationships like this, especially among the young.
