Glad you liked them too. I had a feeling you would. :)

The only *problem* with the Pompidou Centre is that their collection is huge. Once we'd looked at their touring Roy Lichenstein exhibition, and their collection from 1900-1960, we were too mentally knackered/saturated to look at their contemporary collection from 1960 to the present, even after a long meal break in between.

We'd also hoped to visit the Musee D'Orsay which I hear is a spectacular building, converted from an old railway station, and has a great collection of Impressionists, but we ran out of time.

How cultured. Last time I was in Paris I watched Wales v France and then got pissed. Pretty much the same thing right?

This always cheers me up.

Raoul dufy?

Matisse - but I see where you're coming from.

Well, it was the only gallery/museum we went to all week. We also spent a day at a rock music festival, and I must admit that the thought crossed my mind to go to a Paris St-Germain game. :)

Hey, I guessed right. Scout's honour. :)

When? Did we win?

Boats in a harbour through a shuttered window painted with staggering incompetency - it's usually Dufy.

Nah, that's a painting of his open fridge.

Now that was a sad story.

Poor woman. :D

Ironically, the tourist response to this dodgy piece of restoration has been phenomenal. They've begun charging a couple of euros to see the result, giving half to the church and half to the woman! She, I gather, gives most of it back. And they are marketing the new image to sell on the usual items (tea towels, mugs!). Probably prophylactics, too.

Not tacky at all!

About five years ago and no! If I remember we did have the first try but it was a bit down hill after that.

I'll pretend I didn't hear that....

Aside from the question of how incompetent these works allegedly are, one terrible consequence of such styles is that today, we must endure a plethora of contemporary artists producing debased naive seaside images. Bad copies of deliberately naive originals. And they're usually hung with depressing predictability in people's bathrooms.

Alfred Wallis has a lot to answer for.

And what's wrong with this?

I prefer empty canvases to a lot of the work hanging in bathrooms.
