I've done one of his euroscript courses he certainly seems to know the score

But surely the writer's job is to toil and be un recognised.

Unless your David Mamett (note to self swear more)

"Take that you herring filled paedo c**t" is probably a little ott

At this point, a room sucking in its collective breath, to the point of implosion, made it clear this was not a boozed-up News Revue crowd.

I enjoyed it and thought it was very useful. To be honest, just having this event to raise morale in the soul-destroying world of comedy-writing is probably a good thing.

The 'Why You Need To Break Into Radio Comedy' was the stand-out session for me. All of the speakers were passionate about radio comedy, though if there is anyone more passionate about the genre/medium than James Cary, I'd be surprised. Excellent, excellent session.

Great networking and to be 'recognised' (via nametag) and have people say they like particular sketches of yours they like is both extremely weird and extremely satisfying.

Dan

nb Dan you know you actually say Dan at the end of every sentence?

"Would you like a cup of tea...Dan"

"I'm going to the radio comedy session...Dan"

"Hi I'm Dan...Dan"

Why is that?

A laugh followed by an embarassed silence tells me I've done my job.

Dan.

That was only after the Stephen Mangan session.

Dan!

It was a great weekend. Probably the most surprising bit was when I sat down next to this chap in one of the smaller seminars; we had a nice chat, and then when we introduced ourselves it turned out that I was talking with Doug Naylor. Cool

Yes he's a bloody nice guy

and having ruled comissioned comedy for decades. Now he's making gueriall stuff with a little camera.

Which happens to look better, funnier and more professional then pretty much anything on the telly at the mo.

And he's been advising George Lucas on how to do similar.

Bloody, bloody, bloody nice guy.

When I met Dan he had started referring to himself in the third person.

"Dan's thirsty, going to get a drink, Dan."
"Dan really enjoyed the radio comedy session, Dan."

I took him to the sick bay, I thought he was concussed.

I thought the Saturday was really good, and I agree about the radio comedy session being one of the best (I didn't make the Sunday as I felt like I had seen everyone I wanted to see on Day One. Plus it was really sunny and I had to make a tough choice)

All Dan and no Dan makes Dan a Dan Dan

Haha -- silly sooty! He put 'Dan' where he obviously meant 'Dan'.

Dan!

How Dan of me.

Shame it was really useful and far more hands on

Yeah, Dan agrees with Dan.
