NJ: Offence Meant

Here something me and Jane P wrote that didn't get on.

OFFENCE MEANT
=====================

MILES:
A media storm was caused this week when Top Gear's presenters were described as displaying "school boy" antics; accused of "racism" and "xenophobia" when describing Mexican food as "refried sick". On the line now is reporter of the story, Sunday Times journalist, David Leppard.

DAVID:
(D) Miles.

MILES:
"Racism", "xenophobia", "refried sick".

DAVID:
(D) Quite.

MILES:
"Top Gear Tendency", "carefully cultured notoriety", "dinosaurs". I mean the list goes on. It's simply massively offensive.

DAVID:
(D) Yes.

MILES:
The sheer amount of... quotation marks in your article is tantamount to plagiarism!

DAVID:
(D) Sorry?

F/X:SHAKES NEWSPAPER

MILES:
How can this count as journalism? You've quoted so many words, you're as original as a Microsoft Search Engine!

DAVID:
(D) I don't believe it!

MILES:
Quoting old sitcoms now, I see. Ronnie Corbett. Victor Meldrew. How about an 'I'm from Barthelona' to finish things off?

DAVID:
(D) Oh, shut up. (BEAT) You plonker.

F/X:HANGING UP

MILES:
David Leppard, thank you very much.

END

Not a strong enough angle for that story, IMHO.

Still, the nice BBC presenter sketch was a winner...
