I got my first Only When I Laugh DVD (series 1) in the post yesterday and I watched the first ever episode last night. It wasn't laugh-out-loud hilarious, but it was very well done. It was written by Eric Chappell who wrote Rising Damp, Home to Roost, Duty Free and Fiddlers Three and starred James Bolam (famous for playing Terry in the Likely Lads) as X-Ray Figgis, Peter Bowles (who was Richard de Vere in To the Manor Born) as Glover, Christopher Strauli (from Raffles) as Norman, the fabulous Richard Wilson (Victor in One Foot in the Grave) as Thorpe and Derrick Branche as Gupte.
I recommend this. I bought it because I think Richard Wilson is one of the best British comedy actors there has ever been. I still think Victor is the funniest character in any British sitcom ever (I think he evens beats Del Boy, Blackadder, Norman Stanley Fletcher and Arkwright!)
